There are 3 ways to prepare coconut water kefir. You can use kefir grains, use kefir as a starter or a kefir starter culture.
However, we recommend using kefir grains (either water or milk kefir grains). It’s the easiest and the most affordable way.
How to prepare
- 5 tablespoons of water kefir grains
- 7 cups fresh of coconut water
- 1 Ceylon cinnamon stick
You should pour the coconut water into a ½ gallon jar. Then, add the water kefir grains and cover the jar loosely.
Let it stand for 48 hours, but no longer than that! Fermentation longer than 2 days can lead to an explosion!
You will notice that it will get a lighter color. Once the culturing process is done, the kefir grains will rise up to the top. Remove the grains. You can use them again if you want to make another batch right away.
